SCHOOL COUNCIL

What do we do?

We are the School Council. Our job in the school is to listen to the children's opinions, if they are ideas to improve the school or if they have any problems that we can help with, we will do our best to make it a better school.

What have we done?

As a school council we have to help to achieve some key points in our school.

  • As a school council in 2007 we decided that it would be a good idea to go ahead with the healthy schools idea. Being a healthy school means exercising and keeping healthy during the time at our school. Now in 2009 we are about to start on healthy schools +.
  • Also as a school we have made Benny's garden as to remember Benny when she was at our school.
  • We also helped to get our outdoor classroom it was a suggestion and then taken to the school governors and it went ahead.
  • As a school Council we came up with the idea of the class book which means every class has a book for the children to write there ideas for the school council to discuss in the meetings.

How the school council communicates with the rest of the school?

The School Council is an important part of the school family. Our teacher Mr Kamin comes to every meeting and takes important points to the staff meetings and Mrs Collins takes the minutes and pins them up on the notice board for everyone to see what we have been doing.

How we select new members?

Every year at some point in May all the children that would like to be part of the next school council make a speech in front of their year group. Then after all the children have made there speech their year group go into the hall and vote for the two people they think would be good in the school council. Then after everyone has voted the school council count the votes and in the next assembly we announce who has had the most amount of votes gets to be in the school council.
