This term our school-based topic is: 'The House that Jack Built'. As a Key Stage, we are learning about castles, and invaders and settlers of Britain's past.
Every day all pupils take part in a timed maths test. This is progressive and pupils attempt more challenging question sets as they achieve 100% on three consecutive days. The children enjoy this daily maths challenge which supports quick fact recall and fluency.
We follow a mastery approach to learning in mathematics, focussing on a particular set of skills for a set time. This allows pupils who need more support to receive this and those that master new learning quickly to problem solve and develop their mathematical reasoning.
Each writing lesson begins with a SPaG starter. This is a short burst of learning with a particular focus on spelling, punctuation or grammar.
We follow the 'talk for writing' approach to teaching writing. The pupils complete 'cold' and 'hot' tasks before/after each unit which allows a focus to be identified, taught and reviewed.
