Faith & Belief
The Faith and Belief Domain encompasses the following traditional subjects:
- Religious Education
- Elements of PSHE
The vision for the Faith and Belief domain is to immerse children into deep meaningful thoughts about their life and the lives of others, exploring faith and belief, including spirituality. Faith and Belief is learning about religion, developing cultural awareness by providing children opportunities to discover and learning about the multicultural world we live in through investigation, interpretation, reflection, empathy, evaluation, analysis, synthesis, application, expression and self-understanding. Children will be encouraged to develop a sense of wonder, awe, mystery and joy through reflection time and consider questions about life, change and death.
The statutory Awareness, Mystery and Value Somerset syllabus encompasses two key indicators of attainment. Attainment Target 1: learning about religion and Attainment Target 2: learning from religion.
Through the study of Christianity and other key religions, children will be encouraged to understand different faiths and beliefs, rites of passage, and how this affects their role and the world in which they live.
The Faith and Belief domain will further encourage children to live harmoniously with others by supporting the development of social and emotional skills and moral values, where children have an understanding and respect for others, their community and the wider world community. Our school values will be embedded throughout the Faith and Belief curriculum.
