All the children of statutory school age at Ruishton School follow the Foundation Stage and National Curriculum, and the younger pupils follow the Early Years programmes of study. This means they follow nationally agreed programmes of study in Maths, English, Science, Art, Music, P.E., History, Geography, Design and Technology and Information Technology.
If you wish to find out more about the National Curriculum please follow this link. https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/national-curriculum
In addition to the subjects specified in the National Curriculum, the school curriculum also includes cross curricular issues such as Personal and Social Education, Health Education, Environmental Education, Religious Education, Equal Opportunities and Multicultural Education. French is taught across Key Stage 2, Forest School is taught to all children throughout the year as is Cooking.
Our Reception and Key Stage 1 children have direct daily input of phonics through the Read Write Inc. programme and this can also be followed through to Key Stage 2 children, if the need is evident.
From September 2013, we changed our teaching method to fit with our philosophy of learning through enjoyment. We now all learn through a themed topic approach, currently whole school. Everyone seems to love it!!
