Gemma Maxwell - Early Years Strategic Lead

Gemma Maxwell has been in Early Years for 18 years and brings to the role a wealth of knowledge around child development, and teaching and learning.  Gemma works within the two nursery settings to co-ordinate a shared strategy for EYFS across The Oak Partnership Trust. She also provides support to schools in delivering the EYFS element of the Excellence Strategy, including the development of phonics, training and School Improvement consultancy.

 

Janice Welch - Nursery Manager and Designated Safeguarding Lead

Janice Welch joined Woodlands Nursery as Nursery Manager in the summer term of 2026, bringing with her over 20 years of experience within the Early Years sector. She has a wealth of knowledge across Early Years practice, with particular strengths in developing high-quality learning environments, play-based learning and continuous provision.

Alongside her strong understanding of the Early Years curriculum, Janice brings extensive knowledge of how children learn about themselves, their communities and the wider world. Her experience, knowledge and passion for Early Years are a valuable addition to Woodlands Nursery and will support the continued development of high-quality provision for all children.

 

Lucy Redfern - Deputy Manager and SENDCo

Lucy Redfern joined Woodlands this year, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication. Having already completed her foundation degree and now nearing the end of her full degree, Lucy demonstrates a strong commitment to her professional growth and to providing the very best for children. We are delighted to welcome her into her important roles as our setting SENDCo and Phonics Lead, where her expertise, passion, and caring approach will be a great asset to both the children and the whole Woodlands team.

 

Sandra Webber - Nursery Practitioner and Forest School Lead

Sandra has been with Woodlands for 7 years.  Sandra brings with her lots of experience in childcare. Sandra is very passionate about children's outdoor learning and is the nursery's Forest School Lead. 

Sandra recognises the importance of using the outdoor environment as a teaching space and ensures all children are given the opportunities to experience the importance of outdoor learning within our on-site forest school area, supporting and teaching the children in managing their own risk. 

 

Emily Adams - Nursery Practitioner and Physical Development Lead

Emily started with Woodlands in 2017. She brings with her lots of experience in childcare and is the Physical Development Lead for the nursery. She is very passionate and is always in search of ideas on how to support children's physical health and development.  Emily ensures that all children experience at least 30 minutes of structured activity a day. 

 

Lexi Spencer - Nursery Practitioner

Lexi joined the Woodlands Nursery team in September 2025 and is currently working towards her NVQ Level 3 qualification in Early Years.

Since joining the team, Lexi has continued to grow in confidence and develop her knowledge and understanding of Early Years practice. She has built warm, positive relationships with the children and is developing a strong understanding of how to support their individual needs, interests and learning through play.

Lexi is enthusiastic, caring and eager to learn, and she takes an active role within the nursery environment. She continues to develop her skills across all areas of practice, including supporting children’s communication and language, personal and social development, independence and engagement within continuous provision. She is a valued member of the Woodlands team and is making excellent progress within her apprenticeship.
