Our pastoral provision is a central and integrated element of school life, ensuring that pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn. We take a proactive and preventative approach, built on strong relationships, early identification of need and a clear graduated response to support children’s emotional wellbeing, behaviour and mental health.
Pastoral support starts at the classroom door, with class staff playing central roles in our pastoral system, providing daily guidance and support to their classes, overseeing both academic and pastoral aspects.

In addition to this support, we have a dedicated Pastoral Assistant, Miss Poulsom. Pastoral support is led by Miss Poulsom and is closely aligned with safeguarding, SEND and inclusion systems so that concerns are identified early and addressed swiftly. Miss Poulsom is specially trained in many areas, including being a qualified Mental Health First Aider. In addition to Miss Poulsom, we have a Trust Pastoral Lead and PFSA (Parent Family Support Advisor), Polly Skene. Polly can step in and work with closely with our families to support them where necessary.

Pupils are supported through a range of strategies including daily check‑ins, key adult relationships, social and emotional interventions, safe spaces and targeted support for pupils experiencing anxiety, trauma or other vulnerabilities. Miss Poulsom bases herself in Elm Room each day, providing a safe go-to space for children.
Multi‑agency working is well established, with effective collaboration with external professionals where additional expertise is required.
The Safeguarding Team monitor pastoral provision carefully to ensure it is responsive, consistently applied and having a positive impact on attendance, behaviour, engagement and wellbeing.
Effective education depends upon the strength of the triangle that exists between the pupil, the parents and the school. When all three points of that triangle are pulling in the same direction, there is no limit to what can be achieved. We encourage parents to work with us by sharing any concerns with the school. Our parents can always arrange face to face contact with any member of staff. Telephone conversations can always be arranged, or parents may choose to communicate via email.
